OC Streetcar

Orange County Transportation Authority

About This Project

Expected to begin operations in 2022, the OC Streetcar will link the bustling Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center (SARTC), which provides regional rail, OCTA bus, and intercity and international bus services, to a new multimodal hub at Harbor Boulevard/Westminster Avenue in Garden Grove. Along the way, OC Streetcar will connect directly with 18 OCTA bus routes. OC Streetcar will serve the historic downtown Santa Ana and Civic Center which includes government offices, federal, state and local courthouses, unique restaurants and shops, an artists’ village, several schools and a variety of community enrichment organizations.

K&A was hired to develop and implement a comprehensive public outreach plan that will keep community awareness high through all phases of the project through construction and into initial testing and operations. Work has included conducting community surveys, pop-up outreach booths along the new alignments, attendance at a wide variety of community events in Orange County and door-to-door outreach to affected homes and businesses. K&A also developed a mobile app for stakeholders to use a central communication hub for the project. The mobile app keeps stakeholders up-to-date on construction progress, daily traffic impacts, road closures, utility work and more. As parking reductions are expected to be impactful, the app includes information on available parking locations as well as maps that outline construction zones. This project also included a focused business continuity plan geared toward promoting businesses along the corridor as destinations for future riders. This plan includes resources for local businesses to use during the pre- and construction phases, such as events that attract more patrons to the area.
