Port of Long Beach Master Plan Update

Port of Long Beach

About This Project

The Port of Long Beach embarked on a master planning review to comprehensively update the existing Port Master Plan, which guides development and land uses in one of the world’s leading seaports. K&A developed a Communications and Engagement Plan for the Port of Long Beach and worked closely with the Port to implement the plan to ensure diversified engagement opportunities that would promote full representation of the community and stakeholders.

K&A designed interactive workshops, focus groups and feedback mechanisms that provided stakeholders with opportunities to learn about the Port Master Plan Update, talk one‐on‐one with project team members, and provide feedback. Workshop events were advertised through news releases, postcard mailings, social media, and display ads in local newspapers. Spanish and Khmer language interpretation was provided at the workshops. K&A also facilitated the focus groups, which were organized into various stakeholder group categories, including community, environmental, tenants and users, and operators. The outreach and engagement activities were successful in collecting specific input on the goals and elements of the Port Master Plan Update. Stakeholders were actively engaged and had several opportunities to provide their feedback and learn how their feedback was being incorporated into the project.
