SFPUC Water System Improvement Program

San Francisco Public Utilities Commission

About This Project

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) launched construction in 2004 for the $4.8 billion Water System Improvement Program (WSIP). The WSIP is a multi-year capital improvement program designed to upgrade and seismically retrofit regional and local water systems in the Bay Area. The program consists of 83 projects – 35 local projects located within San Francisco and 48 regional projects, spread over seven counties.

Since 2009, K&A has planned and executed communication activities in support of WSIP’s 83 projects and created a roadmap that not only helped organized the WSIP team, but also helped communicate the importance of this critical program to stakeholders. As of May 2017, this program is 95 percent complete, but the K&A on-site team continues to assist in the planning and execution of dozens of media tours and special events that have resulted in local, national and international media coverage.
