23 Oct Even Small Steps Make a Big Difference
By Emily Michaelson
For the past several years, our San Diego staff has participated in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease. This past Saturday, we gathered at Balboa Park to continue this tradition and participate in the Walk for our sixth consecutive year. What keeps us coming back year after year is our commitment to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s. For many of us, this is a deeply personal endeavor since we have relatives or friends who have Alzheimer’s and have experienced firsthand its heartbreaking effects. The Walk is one way we are able to pay tribute to our loved ones with Alzheimer’s and come together to help end this terrible disease.
Alzheimer’s is a disease that is often severely isolating for those who suffer from it, their families and their caregivers. At the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, our friends, families, neighbors, and even pets walk side by side and join thousands of others in our community in a display of solidarity and support. The experience of uniting as a community is both encouraging and empowering, and we appreciate our staff that contribute their time and financial support to this cause each year.
